# What should you do with prisoners in Star Trek Online?

Prisoners are Duty Officers stored in your Brig . Keep them for prisoner-related Duty Officer assignments or fleet projects that specifically accept prisoners.

## Keep them until an assignment or fleet project needs them

### Use prisoners only where the game specifically asks for prisoners.

They are not normal active-duty officers. Their main uses are prisoner Duty Officer assignments and eligible fleet-project contributions.

## The two useful places to check

### Prisoner turn-ins and related assignments

Some Duty Officer assignments consume prisoners in exchange for their listed rewards. The exact assignments available depend on faction and where your character is.

### Projects that explicitly accept prisoners

If a fleet project lists prisoners as an accepted contribution, eligible prisoners from your Brig can be donated to it.

## Where are prisoners kept?

### Your Brig holds up to 20 prisoners.

Prisoners are stored separately from the normal Duty Officer roster. Federation and KDF prisoners are also faction-specific for relevant assignments, so they are not interchangeable in every use.
