# Does Star Trek Online still have a subscription?

**No. Star Trek Online does not have a monthly subscription anymore.**

The game is free-to-play. An optional **Lifetime Subscription** is still available as a one-time purchase; it is not a recurring monthly subscription.

## What happened to the monthly subscription?

- **17 January 2012:** Star Trek Online became free-to-play. A subscription was no longer required to download and play.
- **3 May 2018:** new monthly subscriptions were closed. Existing subscribers could continue, but new players could no longer start one.
- **10 October 2024:** contemporary reporting of the subscriber notice says the remaining legacy monthly subscriptions were cancelled, with qualifying active subscribers converted to free Lifetime Memberships.

## What subscription can you still buy?

Arc Games currently lists **Star Trek Online: Lifetime Subscription** as a purchasable product. It is optional, is paid for once, and is not required to play Star Trek Online.
