# What is a TFO in Star Trek Online?

TFO means Task Force Operation . It is STO's queued group content: choose a specific TFO or join a Random TFO, let matchmaking form the team, complete the objectives and receive the listed rewards.

## A TFO is a matchmade group activity

### Queue, match with a team, complete the mission.

Most standard TFOs are five-player activities, although some use larger teams. TFOs can include space combat, ground combat, objectives, timers and other mission mechanics.

## Specific TFO or Random TFO?

### You choose the operation.

Pick the exact TFO you want to play and wait for matchmaking to fill the required team.

### The game chooses from the eligible pool.

Random TFOs help fill open queues and add a Random TFO reward. Normal, Advanced and Elite random queues exist; the eligible pool depends on the selected difficulty and queue rules.

Not every TFO is available at every difficulty.
